Before You Can Sell your Business, You Need to Know Your Product. PART I

Know your product

Marketing is really about selling. Not your products, not your services, not even your business. Marketing is about selling yourself and in order to do that effectively, you have to have some idea of who the hell you are. Not just who you are in business, but who you are in every aspect of your life. You’ve heard it said that You can’t love someone until you love yourself, well the same goes here with a twist – nobody, and I mean nobody, is going to invest a red cent into a business you represent unless they feel they can expect a good return on investing in you. You may have employees. You may have contractors. You may have a nice color-coded list of services and products that jump off the page and scream “BUY ME” to anyone that sees them and nobody will give a damn unless they like the idea of investing in you.

See, it really is all about you, your presentation, your ideas, your personality, your thoughts and ideas. THAT’s what clients invest in. They’re signing on the dotted line to ensure that you will have an involvement in some aspect of their business because they feel that you, by proxy of your business, will benefit their company in the goals you plan to obtain together.
